History and Vision Saturday 3 December 2011

Back in 2003, I wrote a piece of software called Go Bible which was possibly the first complete Bible application for Java phones. Mostly through a community effort Go Bible became the most popular Bible software for Java phones.

After writing Go Bible I realised there was a need for software that not only allows you to look up a verse and search for scriptures or even study the Bible but software that allows you to live with the Bible. At the time I didn't really know what the software should look like.

Even though I had written Mac software before, I hadn't written a Mac OS X application using Objective-C. In 2008 I decided to learn Objective-C and in that first week I wrote the first version of River Bible using many of the available features of the fantastic Mac OS X Cocoa API.

I released the first version of River Bible on jolon.org in 2008 but didn't promote it. As a result it largely remained dormant while I focused on other tasks.

In early 2011 Apple opened the Mac App Store. Around the middle of the year I made River Bible available. Shortly after I added features like the Journal and Strongs concordance.

River Bible at this stage still doesn't embody entirely my vision for an application that allows you to live with the Bible. But it's a start and I'm looking forward to trying new things in the future.

God's blessings to you and enjoy reading!

Jolon.
